Bakersfield's own Brandon Weaver broke two records at Kern County Raceway June 14, making this young driver a race to watch this season. The teenage racecar driver broke the all-time track record for the ½-mile track at Kern County Raceway. While qualifying, Brandon completed a track lap in just 20.508 seconds in the S2 car. The 14-year-old then continued to not only win the feature in the car, but also the feature race in the Legends car, as well.
Brandon Weaver is the first driver in Kern County Raceway Park track history to win races in two different divisions on a single night. Bringing home first place in the SRL S2 car and Legends car, Weaver couldn't be happier.
Weaver earned the SRL S2 Series win. After finishing first in qualifying to earn pole position, Weaver opted to start at the back of the pack to compete for an optional bonus prize. After multiple resets and tangles for first, Weaver charged the grid, and ultimately passed for first place by Lap 21.
"I can't even explain how amazing this is," Weaver said. "I figured since they were inverting 10 and there were only 14 cars, I figured there was nothing to lose. I seem to get more focused as the race goes on. I get a bit nervous at the beginning but my nerves calm down and I hit my marks."
In the 30 lap Legends feature, Weaver started in the eighth position, passing cars until lap 22 when he took the lead. After a lap 27 restart, Weaver regained the lead for the win.
Initially, Weaver had not planned to compete in the SRL Series, but when High Point Racing approached Brandon for their driver development program, he took that opportunity. Simi-Valley, CA-based High Point Racing strives to advance their drivers' developing careers, and do everything they can to encourage the drivers as they progress through the ranks. Weaver's quickly proven to be a competitive driver in the full-size stock car, currently holding first place points in the SRL series. Brandon's father Dan Weaver states, "It's unreal to see Brandon achieve what he has so far this season,". As points leader in the series Brandon's a strong contender for rookie of the year.

Until this season, Brandon was highly competitive in the Bandolero and Legends car, winning the 2011 California Bandolero State Championship and 3rd Place in the US. The following year in 2012, Brandon continued to race in the Bandolero series while running select Legends races. 2013 proved to be a very competitive year in the Legends car as he earned 14 top five finishes.
Brandon races next on June 28 at Madera raceway in both Legends and S2 car. Weaver has his hopes to practice hard and see a repeat of his last race and continue to be a competitive driver.
