MOORESVILLE, Nc. (Aug 6th, 2014) - At the conclusion of each season of the Jack in the Box Summer Shootout Series at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina, U.S. Legend Cars International, INEX, and the track present the Tom Van Wingerden Spirit of a Legend Award to a competitor who best exemplifies the spirit of friendly competition upon which the Legends Cars and Bandoleros are based. On Tuesday, July 29th, this prestigious award was presented to the Cram family, marking the first time the award has been given to an entire group.
Every week throughout the summer for multiple years, the entire Cram family attends the Summer Shootout. Kevin and Kimberly Cram, along with the support from Kevin's brother Buddy Cram, run and manage Cram Racing Enterprises, a Legends and Bandolero set-up and management company to help develop young racers. Kevin and Kimberly's son Dawson is an accomplished Bandolero racer that now races in the Legends Young Lions division while Dawson's cousin Casey Brown races in the Legends Semi-Pro division. Dawson's sisters Ashley, who is an aspiring teen singer, and Savanah, who is an avid equestrian, also attend each week to help the CRE team and support their family in racing.
"Our entire family loves the sport," said Kevin Cram, who has an extensive background in racing as a former NASCAR Sprint Cup Series crew chief. "We come to the track as a family to compete in a racing arena that we enjoy being a part of."
Kimberly Cram knows the value of family at the track as well, growing up in a family racing atmosphere and spending her childhood years at race tracks across Southern California.
"We are very fortunate all our kids love spending time together and with Kevin and I," said Kimberly Cram. "A lot of teens would rather spend time away from their parents, but Dawson, Savanah, and Ashley as well as Casey really have a great time together. The Summer Shootout, and Legends and Bandolero racing as a whole, has provided a great atmosphere for us to spend time together. As a mother that means the world to me."
The Cram family was presented with the award during the drivers meeting at the final round of the Summer Shootout.
"We were completely shocked and surprised to be named this year's recipient of the Tom Van Wingerden Spirit of a Legend Award," said Kevin Cram. "To be recognized as a family whose actions exemplify the spirit and intent of Legends Car and Bandolero racing is quite an honor and very humbling."
