Scarborough, ME - The Amsoil NELCAR Legends Tour made their weekly visit to the Beech Ridge Motor Speedway for round number six of Thursday Thunder. Ideal weather conditions graced Southern Maine's NASCAR Track, for what was sure to be an exciting night of racing!
17 cars started the 25 lap feature event, with the 2 of Darren Johnson and the 72 of Mike Humphrey leading the field to the green. Humphrey took the early lead, and stayed there for the first several laps. The 8 of Matt Chagnot found his way to the front, but didn't keep it for long, as the 84 of Matt Grant made his way to the top spot from the 8th starting position. However, the 38 of Mathew Bourgoine followed Grant through to the second spot, and wasted no time putting the fight to the 84 car. The two Pro division racers duked it out for several laps, with Bourgoine making his way by. The two distanced themselves from the rest of the pack, until a caution on lap 20 tightened the field up again. Bourgoine took off on the restart, with the 19 of Kevin Girard Jr. right in tow, followed by Grant, who settled into 3rd. A spin by the 10 of Ed Getty quickly brought out the yellow again, and set up another restart with four laps to go.
In a mad dash to the finish, Bourgoine was able to hold off the charge and remain unbeaten in Thursday Thunder! Girard racked up his fourth runner up finish of the year, with the 59 of Reid Lanpher rounding out the podium. The 399 of Bob Weymouth and the 81 of Dan Winter completed the top 5.
The next stop on the Tour is a big one, the 50-lap National Qualifier at the Oxford Plains Speedway, as part of the 41st Annual Oxford 250, arguably one of the most prestigious short track races in the country.
