There was a legend among us this past weekend driving in the 2012 Winter Heat Series at Charlotte Motor Speedway. NASCAR driver Max Papis drove for Bruce Silver Racing in the 54 Racing Electronics Legends Car prepared by 860 Motorsports.
This was Papis’s first time running a Legend Car on a road course and it ended up being his first win ever at Charlotte Motor Speedway! After a few rounds of practice Papis got a feel for the car and the track and improved with each lap.
Papis won the heat race putting him on the pole for the feature where he led every lap of the race. Fellow Sprint Cup driver Mark Green kept the pressure on Papis throughout most of the race. Green held second place for a majority of the race until getting caught up in lap traffic.
Papis’s excitement over the win was evident as he ran a Polish victory lap past the start finish line with a burn out at the end. He couldn’t have been more pleased with his first victory at CMS! It was a star studded day at CMS; Timmy Hill, the 2011 NASCAR Nationwide Series Rookie of the Year was also present for this event. Hill ran a great race and ended up finishing in first place for the Pro class.
