LANGLEY SPEEDWAY - Hampton, VA: Hendricks rolls to 2nd Legends victory

Joe Hendricks Jr. assumed the lead on lap 4 and showed the way to his second win of the year in a 25-lapper for the Casey Cycle City INEX Legends, part of Saturday night's "Hampton Heat" program at Langley Speedway, one of the showcase events of the City of Hampton's 400th anniversary celebration.
The lineup was set by points with the top six inverted, putting former champ Cameron Patrick on the pole with Spencer Saunders alongside. Jamie Price and defending titlist Steve Keesee made up Row 2, while Hendricks and current points leader Brad Hancock launched from Row 3.

As the green flag dropped, Patrick jumped into the lead. Price moved up to second, followed by Hendricks, Hancock and Keesee. By lap 2, the top five had distanced themselves from the rest of the pack.
On lap 3, Price ducked under Patrick in Turn 4 in a bid for the lead. Behind them, Keesee drove to the inside of Hancock, looking to gain the fourth spot.

The shuffle went awry in Turn 2 on lap 4, though, as Price and Patrick tangled and Patrick spun, collecting Hancock and bringing out the only caution flag. Patrick and Hancock were both relegated to the sidelines, while Price was sent to the rear of the field, turning the lead over to Hendricks.

Back under green, Hendricks and Keesee, the new first- and second-place drivers, bolted from the pack, while Saunders went to work on Chris Raiford for third, nosing ahead as they returned to the line.
Running nose-to-tail, Hendricks and Keesee were nearly half a straightaway in front of Saunders as the field received the crossed flags.

Over the second half of the event, Hendricks stretched his lead to as much as four lengths over Keesee, who tried to rally a couple times down the stretch, but made little headway.

At the checkers, Hendricks was the winner by 0.377-second - about three lengths - over Keesee. Price rebounded from his early-race miscue to take third. Saunders was fourth and Raiford came home in fifth.
In the Legends standings, Hancock, who finished last in the 12-car field, saw his lead dwindle from 26 to just four over Hendricks, 318-314. Keesee is just behind with 310, followed by Price with 294.
