ALCARO, CURREY AND LAMOTHE COLLECT BETHEL WINS

It was a busy day for Legends cars at Bethel Motor Speedway this past Saturday, as the cars had a holdover feature resulting from the June 12th rainout as well as a regular feature for the night. When the checkered flags flew, defending track champion Mike Alcaro won the holdover race, young Texas hotshoe Bayley Currey won the regular feature, and Jordan Lamothe was the winner of the Bandolero race.

Alcaro started the holdover race on the pole, and he led from green to checker in the holdover event. Todd McCollum, who won the previous week’s race, started the event in seventh but made his way to second just four laps in. Carl Blandina challenged McCollum for the second spot at the halfway point of the race, but McCollum was able to stay ahead of Blandina, who had to settle for third at the line. Rookie Richie Coy and Raven Schrantz rounded out the top five.

A total of 23 cars took to the track for the regular feature event. Gregory Rittenhouse and Joe Graf started on the front row, but they had Currey in the row behind them. By the third lap, Currey was out front, and he never looked back. Alcaro had made his way from tenth to second just a few laps later, and McCollum soon took over the third spot. Alcaro and McCollum would chase Currey, but he proved to be unstoppable in only his first-ever trip to the speedway. Alcaro was second, with McCollum third. JD Abrahams, in his first competition since May, was fourth. Schrantz completed the top five.

As has been the case all season, the young drivers of the Bandolero class kept the fans on the edge of their seats. First-time Bandolero competitor Rudy Roth Jr. started on the pole and led at the drop of the green. Jordan Lamothe started in seventh, but quickly powered his way through the field and was side by side with Roth Jr. by the second lap. Lamothe took over the lead for good two laps later. Joseph Graf Jr. was second to cross the line, followed by Max Evans. Taylor Hurban and Christina Policastro rounded out the top five.

Legends and Bandoleros will be part of Bethel’s two-day “Firecracker Madness” weekend on July 3rd and 4th. For more information, visit www.bethelmotorspeedway.com, or call (845) 319-7908.
