Kyle Weatherman landed Federal Tire its first win at the Bullring, the famed 3/8 mile track located at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. 35 Legends competed over the weekend with Weatherman winning the Young Lion race on Friday night and followed up his performance with a win on Saturday night. “The Federal Tire is the best tire I have ever raced on”, said the 12 year old from St. Louis, Missouri. Weatherman takes the momentum of his win to the Summer Shootout, which begins June 8th, and the Legends Million July 17th – 19th at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Drivers and crews tweaked their cars to adjust to the new tires. The common theme with every driver was increasing air pressure and making a spring change to accommodate the new feel of the 2 ply sidewall. “Going from a 4 ply tire with a hard sidewall to a 2 ply tire makes the car so much easier to save when it gets out of shape”, said Frank McCourt the 2009 Bullring Masters Champion. “You can really pedal the car coming off the turn. My finish doesn’t reflect the tires performance due to the last lap wreck but we will be back in 2 weeks. I really can’t wait to try them at Havasu, Blythe and the ¼ mile later in the year.”
What else became apparent over the course of the race was the development of a second groove. Side by side racing from 10th place back made for an entertaining show for the fans, and great racing for the drivers. “I could not be happier with the show we saw tonight. If you think about it if the debut was this good what will it be like in 3 months when the drivers and crews really understand what the tires are capable of.
