Last week, the management at Bethel Motor Speedway released the schedule for its 2010 50th anniversary season. Among its features is an 18-race slate for Legends and Bandoleros.
The season will kick off on April 24, with gates opening at 2 p.m. for early practice before the regular show, which includes the Legends and Bandoleros. The track then runs weekly through the beginning of October, with gates opening at 3:30 p.m., hot laps at 5:30 p.m., and racing at 7 p.m. Grandstand admission will remain at $5, as it was in 2009.
The Legends and Bandoleros are on the schedule for the following dates: April 24, May 8, May 15, May 22, June 12, June 26, July 3 and 4 (Firecracker Madness Weekend), July 17, July 31, August 7, August 14, August 28, September 4, September 18, September 25, and October 2 and 3 (Bethel Motor Madness Weekend). The crown jewel of the Bethel Legends and Bandolero schedule will undoubtedly be LegendStock 2010, slated for August 7. The rain date for the event is August 8.
The event, believed to be the highest-paying Legends race in the Northeast, has been very popular since its inception in 2008. Last year's event drew in talent from across the Northeast, and from as far away as Minnesota, Virginia, and North Carolina.
The feature was won by Daniel Hemric, who was the 2009 INEX Pro division national champion. Hemric celebrated the win by doing a back flip off the roof of his car before playing "air guitar" in Victory Lane with the Masters division winner Tim Brockhouse, using their three-foot tall guitar-shaped trophies.
Dusty Summers was the Young Lions division winner, while Roger Coss took home the honors in the Semi-Pro class. Joe Fresco received the Hard Charger award. The Bandolero event was won by Andrew Bickford.
