The World's Home of the Figure 8® is proud of Speedrome champion, Tony Holden. This defending INEX Legend track champion rolled into the final weekend in a no lose situation. The Greenfield, Indiana driver stood second in the overall points with only his young son Aaron ahead. This guaranteed that a Holden would hoist the hardware. In the end, it was a proud father watching his son capture the Speedrome Legend championship. But it was not all unsuccessful as Tony was the top 2009 finisher in the Pro classification for the second straight year.
Tony had a decent start to the Speedrome point campaign. He picked up the pace on May 29th beginning a string of six straight podium results. This included his first and only season feature victory on June 19th. This mid-season success vaulted him to the lead in the standings. He took over the top spot from son Aaron setting up the battle for glory. This sparked a generational swapping of the coveted position in the final stretch run. Each seemed to take advantage of every move of every lap during that span.
The quest to repeat as overall king eroded in the penultimate event when an early lap flat tire sent him to the infield. A solid third place the next night gave him the runner-up in the final standings behind Aaron. Tony's season statistics were 1 victory, 4 runner-up finishes, and 4 third place results in 17 feature starts. The duo now stands at one track title a piece, stay tuned for the rubber match next year. This veteran driver was sponsored by TWH Concrete, Last Chance Wrecker Service, and A & M Customs. This year the celebration Banquet of 2009 will be at Jonathan Byrd's Cafeteria on Saturday November 21st. Fans, drivers, car owners, teams, sponsors, and track employees are all welcome to this special event. Our host will have a plethora of tasty items to choose from on the private banquet dinner line before the awards start circulating. Before, during, and after the awards presentation we will be treated to the music of the MereCats. This talented band has been a staple of the Speedrome banquet for several years with their great music. Advance adult tickets are just $30 with kid's 11 and under going for $15.
